Mangler Squig Scratch Build Progress (And a Cheap Chaos Dwarf Cannon Alternative)

Let's start by saying I am extremely tired of extreme highlighting terminators....  So I have stopped and I am taking a break.  Back to the Mangler Squigs!
For those just tuning in, I really dislike the GW Mangler Squig model soooo I have made my own out of Chaos spawn legs, green stuff and a couple of ping pong balls...
So the basic squig was done when we last checked in.  I have started the "furrying" process...
You might notice that the fur is not done.  I had to stop for fear of putting my fingers in what I was doing.  I hoping to get the fur done on these shortly.
I like to use "grey stuff" for fur.  I just think that it is the better medium  for the fur texture. Having spent some time looking at the fur on the Ridgeback that lives in my house (long story) I have intentionally sculpted the fur to have a direction that looks vaguely circular.
So I also got back into the troll unit.  These will likewise be furred up soon (the lips are still drying).  I have decided to skip the eyes on these guys.  I like the look of them as is though I would love to see nostrils on these guys.  I will have to give that a try.  I know the legs still look sketchy BUT I am hoping that fur will fix that.

In chaos dwarf news...  My buddy Dave found this little beauty on Ebay for $6 from a seller in Russia.
I am very excited to get my grubby paws on one.  Thanks Dave!!!

Speaking of which... It is the big guy's birthday today.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATEY!!!
Here is a photo of the birthday boy rocking Destiny's Child at the first ever Warhammer Royalty Karaoke Night in Canberra earlier this year.

I bring this up because 2.0 commences tomorrow night.  As Dave says "We are going to Party Hardy When We Party!"

Pictures to (maybe) come...

A Closer Look at The Guard

Sooo I have spent some more time painting the ol Deathwing and they are coming along.  I was in the local GW shop and a few guys wanted me to post closer pictures of the infantry (veterans) that go in the Valkyries that make up my aircav army.  This is for you guys...
First up we have the Company Command Squad (I dropped my commander when pulling him out of the case and he is in little pieces at the moment...  Grrr...  The guy on the left standing in for my leader is my version of Marbo)
Below you can see the six squads of 10 veterans with various assault weapons.

 And now some extra stuff:
The dude on the left is my version of Harker.
The guys in the middle go in the back of my converted Medusa when I run this army as a Tank List.
The guy on the right is a generic command type model when I run the list as an infantry list.

Rocket Troops for when I need them...

Additional Assault Weapons and a random Sergeant Model

And there you have it....  A closer look at the guard.

And now I am off to check out Mana Bar Melbourne.  A video game themed bar north of the city.  Details to follow...
(I love school holidays!)

VICC wrap up continued and Assorted Goodies

Thank God for School Holidays!  !  !

After a monster term I am catching up on my sleep and my hobby.  I have been feverishly painting my old Deathwing with the idea that I could quickly knock them out and then maybe finish my necrons or my Death Guard...  Wellllll that is not exactly happening. They are coming and I will have piccies soon (the ones I took with my desk lamp look awful, I will get better ones in daylight tomorrow).

Changing gears; I have taken a bit of flak for not writing a better wrap up to the VICC event as it was such a big part of the Victorian Tourney Calendar.  I will be honest with everything on the go at the end of last term I can't really remember things that well...  It is a good thing that Adam and Noakes (my intrepid 40K team mates) wrote better write ups on their blogs:

Now I hate writing updates with no pictures so...  here is a shot of an old tattoo that I recently had updated (the star is new)...  That is my right shoulder for those wondering...

And in other news... I am super excited about the upcoming Judge Dredd reboot.  How good does Karl Urban look as Dredd?!?!?
I am also quite excited about the K'Dai Fireborn spotted at the recent ForgeWorld open day.  I am withholding judgement until I can see them with paint on.  That said...  I think they look good?
Need better pictures...
Back tomorrow with actual pictures of my hobby!  I promise!
